Edinburgh St Community Centre

On Saturday the 24th June 07 the team went on an investigation at the Edinburgh street community centre (woodcock street hull) .
Team members where Nicky, Kyle, Leane, Danny, Jamie, and me. Jo rang and said something had come up and she was trying to get there as soon as she could.
On arriving we were all introduced to two of the staff that run the place JANET and MARION who joined us on the investigation.
Around 8pm Jamie and I then went around the centre base lining checking the building for creaks, squeaks and drafts we then made notes and placed post it notes on the doors indicating problems which might effect the team during the night this took around 2 hours.
The building consisted of 14 rooms and 1 corridor these where the male toilets with food store room next to it, female toilets with cleaning cupboard next to it, a disabled toilet with corridor just outside and another cupboard, then the nursery, the foyer, kitchen, conference room, office and last of all the main hall (which had a table set up for glass tipping) with 2 rooms off one used for trigger objects.
The hunt started about 10pm and finished around 3:30 am Sunday morning. We started in the main hall which was absolutely pitch black and eerie. The room was pretty large with a stage at one end. On the right side of the hall where advertisements, a large painting of trawlers which had sunk. There were 2 plaques covering 50 years worth of trawlers that had also sunk.
As we where investigating the hall we heard a lot of creaks and bangs basically the building settling. I was on the stage filming when I came across a piece of paper A4 size that stated 4 children had painted a large picture of Abraham Lincoln. I then discovered that only 1 name showed up on my cam I then shined a torch at it the names appeared turned it off again they where gone but 1, I said to Jo there was something wrong with this piece of paper she had a look and she was amazed. Danny and Nicky did the same with there cams and got exactly the same. Leanne took a digital photo of the paper it showed everything (weird).
We stayed in the hall for about 30 mins with Jo calling out for spirits to make a noise (if there’s any spirits in the room would you please make a noise, bang on something , move something or touch one of us.) we had no response. The rest of the team carried on filming taking photos and making notes. Danny and Leanne where getting lots of photos and footage of orbs pretty impressive, we still had no response of any paranormal activity.
We then moved on to a store room off the hall and it was a bit of a small room with a kitchen sink, a desk, a metal locked cupboard and a large wall mounted wooden surface across one wall. The room was used to store sports equipment. Jo sensed a young school boy wearing grey shorts hiding in the corner of the room under the wooden work surface as if he was scared of something or somebody. She also sensed a gym or sports area, Janet clarified it would have been a playground when it used to be a school.
Jo called out “If there is a spirit of a little boy in this room would you please make yourself known” there was no response. Nicky then said she got an orb near the floor and then another one zigzagging between Janet and Jo.
There was a distinct noise as if somebody was walking about in the hall hanging around the door to the room we where in the rest of the team also heard the same noise. Kyle and I where asked to open the door and to go out back into the hall to investigate Kyle and I stood quietly listening and heard a clear noise coming from the foyer. The rest of the team came back out in to the hall to check-up on us we told them we heard a noise from the foyer. Jamie went to investigate heard the same noise and came running back pretty shocked then said he did’nt like it out there. The rest of the team the decided to go into the conference room, but when they walked into the foyer they had noticed a drop in temperature it was very chilly. We sat down in the conference room on seats which were spread out around the edges of the room in the middle was a large table and also a desk at one end of the room near the door this was a cosy medium sized room. The team was doing there usual stuff, taking notes filming and taking photos. Jo was calling out for spirits to make contact we heard noises but they were not confirmed when she asked again. Leane felt as though we where being watched through the door she said its as though somebody is trying to look through the window but was not quite tall enough. Some other members of the team felt the same way about it they said there seams to be more activity outside the room. I then sat near the door filming but did not get anything I suggested we go and investigate. Nicky said I felt like bursting the door open to scare whatever it was trying to scare us. I said why don’t we Nicky then said go on then Tony open the door. So that’s what I did I then asked if anybody would come with me to have a look Leane said I will go with you we stepped out into the corridor decided to go into the kitchen I then made everybody jump by accidentally tripping over a large black bin in the foyer outside the kitchen. Leanne and I carried on into the kitchen where it was very noisy we found out it was the kitchen appliances. We headed back into the conference room and stated we did not notice anything unusual just the fridge in the kitchen making a racket.
Nicky then suggested we go into the nursery we all agreed to have a break first.
The nursery was to be the most scariest place for most of the team members I on the other hand thought the main hall was the most scariest, maybe because it was a large open area with low visibility in the dark. The nursery was scary because as Nicky said “If there is a spirit, most people would be most terrified if it would be the spirit of a child” maybe cause they are unpredictable.
The nursery was a long spacious room with a large window covering one end looking out onto the playground with a door situated to the left hand side in an alcove which leads outside. The room was filled with tables, chairs, toys, and activities for young children. The room felt quite inviting.
The team did there usual jobs camera / photo / taking notes etc. Jo spoke out “if there is a spirit in the room would you please make yourself known, move something, play with the sand, have a good time enjoy yourself”. Jo heard a noise it sounded like footsteps but it was very faint. Jo called out again but no reply, Jo felt a presence of a child particularly a young boy, She said he seems very shy and weary as if he was just observing who we were and what we were doing, Jo called out again “don’t be shy come and join us, play with the toys” there was no reply.
Nicky said she had a feeling that she just wanted to skip around the nursery and sing, Jo felt the same. Janet and Marion were sat on a table when Janet said she could feel the table being pushed but Marion said she did not feel a thing, everyone then gathered round the table taking photos and filming Jamie then got a few orbs on video. Jo called out “if that is you pushing the table would you please do it again” the table did creak Jo said “do it a bit harder “ the table then creaked again the team felt a cold chill round the table as it was still creaking Jo said its as if its trying to move the table but not strong enough. Jamie said “I just got something run past the table I got it on video” Janet could feel the table move again Marion still did not feel a thing she said “I can’t feel nothing I’m sitting perfectly still” Janet said why can I feel it but you can’t? Jo called out again “if there is a spirit among us would you please move the table or try moving one of the chairs” nothing happened. Janet and Marion were asked to stand up for a minute Kyle then demonstrated that the table was wobbly and if you sit on it, it will move Marion then said she did not feel like it moved because of it being wobbly. She was adamant that she was sat still on the table and the table did not move or creak at all. There was a lot more we could do in this room so we decided to have another break before we split up into two groups.
In group 1 was Jo, Janet, and myself.
In group 2 was Nicky, Jamie, Kyle, Danny, Leanne and Marion.
Our team (group 1) decided to go into the main hall area first but this time round it seemed to be very creaky (that might have been the building settling) Jo called out for a spirit to make a noise yet again no reply we then just stood there for about 2 mins then we all heard a distinct bang just to the left hand side of the stage which is right next door to the nursery. Jo called out again for a spirit to make a noise we waited again for a few minutes we heard another distinct bang this time to the right of the stage, we then decided to investigate. The three of us took a long walk across the hall to where there was a pool table and the memorial on the wall. Jo then called out for a spirit to make a noise still no reply, she called out for a John Bartlett / Mr Bartlett and I suggested Olivia Palmer (only because of the names on the piece of paper I discovered earlier on. We still had no answer. We stood around a bit longer we heard another bang it sounded like it came from the storage room the other end of the hall. Jo freaked us out by shouting “OH WOW” we all turned to the large painting of ships on the wall to discover it said written in black ink “YOU DIE” this freaked us out even more Jo called out “does this mean that you die if you where lost at sea” we then carried on looking at the walls to see if there was any more messages. We did not find anything but more pictures, advertisements and 2 memorials of the past 50 years of ships sinking. After scanning the walls we went into the storage room I was drawn to a hat that was on the side Janet mentioned that she brought some hats in, she said that one was her son’s. We sat there quietly just listening for a few minutes then Jo called out for a spirit to make themselves known but no reply. We then heard a noise it sounded like somebody was in the hall about to walk in on us I said it was the other team that made a noise Jo and Janet was not convinced Jo then made a note of it to confirm with the other team. We stayed in the room for another 10 mins then went back out into the hall back to where the pool table was. Jo asked Janet if there was a time when somebody was locked in the building and shouting “I’m still in here don’t lock us in“. Janet confirmed that two girls had hid in the conference room as she was locking up for the night when she heard them shouting don’t lock us in. Luckily she heard them and gave them a telling off. We were chatting for a bit to try to work out some clues but was not getting anywhere. Nicky came walking in stating that they had finished and was going to have a break so we went and had a break too.
After the break Jo, Janet, Marion, and myself went back into the nursery they all sat round a little table whilst I walked around with my camera searching for clues.
Jo was asking if there was an old man or somebody who had passed away and was remembered for this place, like a janitor/caretaker sort of person, and many people were saddened to see him go. Janet and Marion replied that they knew him. Jo asked if his family still come to visit, the answer was no. Jo then asked if there was any of his family members who came to visit to say thank you for looking after him. Marion replied that they did not even get told that he had died, and that was the gospel truth, they seemed very agitated about it. Jo said I will try to pick up a name but no name came up.
We then heard a noise in the centre of the room, it sounded like a plastic sheet being moved, there was a plastic sheet over an A frame what children use in art class to colour in. We went over to investigate and called out for a spirit to move the sheet again or move something else. There was no reply. Jo said she could hear a noise, a high pitched noise. I heard whispering, Jo said you must be hearing something different all I can hear is a high pitched droning sort of sound. After she said that I could hear it, Jo and I went and followed the sound leaving Janet and Marion in the nursery. It lead us into the kitchen were we discovered it was the fridge making a racket. We went back into the nursery and decided that we investigate the kitchen were we felt bad vibes.
Once we got in the kitchen I walked around filming not getting much whilst Jo attempted to call for another spirit, still we had no luck the place seemed to be quite normal not a spirit in sight. We then decided on another break to see if the other team had gotten anything.
Now we came to the best part of the night, glass tipping. This is where we have a table preferably a round table with yes/no, letters a-z and numbers 0-9, then a glass in the centre of the table. We then place a finger on the glass and say if there is a spirit in the room with us tonight and would like to communicate with us would you please move the glass. If the glass moves we then try to find out who it is that we are communicating with for example
(names , dates and so on)
The team went into the main hall where the glass tipping was going to take place Kyle and I was filming, Jamie was taking notes, Janet and Leanne sat and watched whilst Nicky, Jo, Marion, and Danny were starting off the glass tipping. Jo spoke out if there is a spirit in the room with us tonight who would like to communicate with us would you please move the glass. The glass started to move very slowly at first, but as time went on with more questions the glass picked up pace. In this session we found out that it was a little boy named John Bartlett. He was too young to spell or use numbers so we helped him along by asking questions and asking him to confirm them by moving the glass.
Session 2 of the glass tipping was to be the best one so far apart from (punch hotel) we where communicating with a 48 year old Irish lady called Vera Reed who used to be part of the girls brigade back in 1928. She was a very energetic lady who loved to dance. She was also very strong minded and new exactly what she wanted. She was a very proud lady who was not scared to let her hair down and show off and have loads of fun. We enjoyed communicating with her and would love to do it again someday.
This was the end of our night.
